Glenfiddich
Speyside (no age statement), 40% vol
Appearence:
White wine; chardonnay
Aroma:
Light intensity; relatively closed.
(straight)` The first impression is of barley, then malt barns,
then hay (even silage). After a few moments, honey notes emerge
and a distinct scent of heather flowers. The earlier cereal notes
vanish.
(dilute): With water, the whisky sings its provenance as a Speyside:
esters predominate (pear drops, acetone), with some citric notes
(mandarin oranges, plums). Not a complex nose.
Flavour:
A smooth mouth-feel, curiously mouth-drying, even 'cheek puckering'.
The primary taste is medium-sweet, the flavours light, with a
hint of chocolate and sweet maltiness.
Development:
After an hour the cereal notes return - like sniffing a corn bin
or a bucket of chicken mash.
