Philip, The Talisker 1955 has been completely sold out since last summer. The market price for it while it was still in stock was about £89 ($145). About 3-4 months ago, Milroy's Whisky shop in London (the same Wallace Milroy who has written several Whisky books - though he has retired from the shop), received a request from a visitor to the UK to find a bottle of the 1955 Taliker- regardless of price. They were able to find a bottle, probably from another whisky shop (many whisky shops in the UK reserve a couple bottles from sale of special whiskies, usually for their personal collections, enjoyment or to resell later when market prices have greatly risen). The price for that bottle was about £210 ($340), plus commission for finding it. When a whisky starts getting that expensive, it becomes hard to bring oneself to open it.
