Working as I do in the marketing department of Glenmorangie, perhaps I can put in my "tuppence" worth on the subject of wood finishes. First off, I can only congratulate Ralph on his knowledge of our company and its products! To finish (no pun!) the story off, the madeira finish first launched has since been re-packaged and the Glenmorangie wood finishes are now presented as a "range" of expressions. I wouldn't like to comment *too* much on your tasting notes, i'll just say that your pwf notes are spot on! as for the oddbins ?, AFAIK, the Oddbins products are port, sherry and madeira matured whiskies i.e. they spend the *whole* maturation process in port pipes, sherry butts or maderia drums, not "finished" in these barrels as the Glenmorangie expressions are. In our experiments with wood maturation, we did try maturing Gmie in wine casks for the full maturation process but the wine elements tended to overpower and obscure the natural elements occuring in Glenmorangie from maturation in ex-bourbon casks. The "finishing" process we found however, enhanced and developed the essential Glenmornagie characteristics, hence their (successful) launch. hopefully this will not sound too much like the marketing bull that other companies farm out! would of course appreciate any comments regards Rich
