GM Wood Finishes : Tasting notes Sherry Finish : Of itself, and taken in isolation, this is a very pleasant, "deep" tasting whisky with clear and pronounced sherry overtones. However, in a blind side-by-side tasting with Macallan 12 yr old, I was unable to tell the difference. I think you have to have a very sophisticated palate to do this. Therefore, bearing in mind the price difference, I can't see that preference goes to GM. Madeira Finish. Yes! The Glenmorangie taste with an overtone of Madeira. Nice. Interesting, but I can't shout and yell about it. Tain L'Hermitage. AAAhhhh ! Astonishing Pale pink rose colour. Flowery, pastel delicate nose. Don't drink the stuff (yet). Just let it waft up the nose. Relaxation is already on the way. Smooth, smooth, smooth to the palate, Delicate, definately high quality french wine suggestions. Almost thirst-quenching! The unwary will go on drinking without realising just how much is going down the hatch. Long, easy mellow, flowery, lightly aromatic finish. Highly recommended. This will be a clear-cut new experience for many, and they will enjoy it. Anybody knows where more is to be found. please e-mail me in secret code so that I can get there first! Port Wood Finish. Difficult to be objective about this one, actually. After 2 years experience and over 8 bottles of the stuff, I have to say that if I were to be allowed only one whisky - this would be it. Never mind the colour. Lots of whiskies are nice brown-red. So what! But that aroma. VERY strong port. (Good port too!) Here are no wimpy overtones. The port stomps out of the bottle and whaps you one on the schnozzle. How can something smell sweet? But it does! Just like Port! The the taste. Port Wood finish doesn't have a "palate". It has taste, character, the port showing through very strongly. Any more and it would overwhem the GM whisky. However, their chemists (?) tasters (?) have stopped it just in time. Long long smooooooth finish. It's a mix of GM and port. By the by, VERY warming as it goes down, leaving the tummy all aglow. Did I manage to convey my appreciation of it? I hope so! Slanj Ralph
