What Ralph is almost reffering to is a toddy. I inherited my toddy glass from my grandmother, it is almost 200 years old and in regular use. Like old whisky, which is bottled so that it can be drunk, the glass was made to be used. My 20th century recipe for a toddy is a large measure of whisky, and I find that Laphroaig or Ardbeg DO have a medicinal effect, some water, honey, lemon juice and chopped ginger. Pop in two soluble aspirins and put it all into a microwave for one minute at full power. Guaranteed to give you a good night's sleep and, as I said with Ardbeg/Laphroaig/Talisker you will feel better in the morning. The cold may not be all gone, but you WILL feel better. If you do use a glass, make sure that it is like mine, heavy bottomed and thick sided, as the heat can crack an ordinary glass. I experimented with the microwave because the amount of other ingredients (especially whisky) which goes into a toddy means that the hot water which is normally added to it, if a microwave is not used, does not really heat it up properly. Try it next time you have a cold. You will definitely feel better. And remember to thank me! Slainte John Lamond
